At FisioClinics Palma we strive to provide you with the most advanced therapeutic services on the market, such as invasive physiotherapy, to offer you a therapeutic alternative that helps you return to your daily life without problems and without having to go through surgery:

But, what is invasive physical therapy about?

Invasive physiotherapy, as we discussed earlier, is a specialty within physiotherapy, which encompasses the management of techniques that require the use of a needle to treat various injuries through the skin. Although all invasive physiotherapy techniques involve the use of a fine needle, each technique can transmit different stimuli, ranging from mechanical, thermal, and even electrical stimuli that travel directly to the injured tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments, and capsule) to generate physiological effects such as:

  • Acute and chronic pain analgesia.
  • Normalization of neuromuscular function.
  • Relaxation and analgesia of myofascial trigger points.
  • A local chemical reaction that destroys damaged tissue and promotes its elimination.
  • Controlled inflammatory response that promotes and accelerates tissue repair and regeneration processes.

A specific intervention of the musculoskeletal tissues can be achieved, because invasive physiotherapy uses musculoskeletal ultrasound, an imaging study that allows the physiotherapist to inspect the affected tissue in detail and treat it in a controlled manner, thus ensuring a treatment so effective that in some cases may be superior to surgery.

The techniques currently used in invasive physiotherapy are:

  • Dry needling.
  • Percutaneous Intratisular Electrolysis (EPI).
  • Neuromodulación.
  • Mesotherapy.

What are the invasive Physiotherapy techniques available at FisioClinics Palma?

FisioClinics Palma is made up of professionals in physiotherapy who are constantly updating themselves in the management of new technologies and treatments, to provide quality therapeutic care that results in a speedy recovery. Within these new technologies and treatments, we highlight the following Invasive Physiotherapy techniques available at FisioClinics Palma:

  • Intratissue Percutaneous Electrolysis (EPI): an ultrasound-guided technique where a galvanic current is applied through a fine acupuncture needle, to create a reparative inflammatory process in a segment of degenerated or injured tissue (ligament, tendon, or muscle). Since it is performed using the support of musculoskeletal ultrasound, with Intratissue Percutaneous Electrolysis it is possible to locate and stimulate only the injured tissue, without affecting the adjacent tissues. What makes it a very effective technique to treat chronic injuries with unsuccessful reparative processes such as: Achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff tendinopathy, gluteus medius tendinopathy, chronic ankle sprain, plantar fasciitis among other chronic conditions.
  • Neuromodulation: is a technique in which a low-frequency current is transmitted directly to the nervous tissue through acupuncture needles that act as electrodes. With this, it is possible to restore the function of the nervous system altered by some disease or injury, which leads to the analgesia of pain and other discomforts. Due to these effects, it is a highly effective technique to treat conditions such as: neuropathies, cervicobrachialgia, herniated discs, neuromuscular conditions, among other injuries.
  • Dry needling: also known as “Dry needling” is an invasive manual technique that consists of the percutaneous insertion of a fine acupuncture needle (without any medication) on a muscle in a state of tension, to generate a local reflex contraction that allows relaxation of the same. This makes dry needling an effective technique for the treatment of myofascial trigger points (PGM), myofascial syndromes, and muscle contractures that are causing ailments such as headache (Cephalea), neck pain (cervicalgia), back pain, and low back pain (low back pain).

It is important to note that the needles used in these techniques have been designed to cause the least possible discomfort when going through the skin, so you should not worry when reading that needles are used in these treatments since they are practically painless.

For the correct application of these invasive Physiotherapy techniques, at FisioClinics Palma you will be evaluated exhaustively in a first session by one of our physiotherapists, once the characteristics of the present injury have been determined, an individualized therapeutic plan with clear objectives will be designed and achievable that meet your recovery needs.
