Although tendons are strong structures that facilitate our movements by transmitting the contraction force produced by our muscles, sometimes these structures are stressed by various factors causing conditions such as tendinitis that can produce small tears or degenerative changes that chronify the pain and dysfunction. Faced with this condition, FisioClinics Palma offers you the Shock Wave therapy service, an innovative therapy that offers notable benefits in both acute and chronic tendonitis.

What are Tendinitis?

Tendons are cord-like structures, by which the muscles adhere to the bones, the term used when there is an inflammatory process in a tendon is tendinitis. This condition is one of the tendinopathies that most frequently affects athletes (tennis players, runners, soccer players ...) and professionals who perform repetitive movements during their working hours (dentists, bricklayers, painters ...).

If not treated in time, tendonitis can become chronic and lead to greater deterioration in the tendon and, therefore, to greater functional deterioration than where the pain is present at the beginning, during and after the completion of activities. The best known and most common tendinopathies are:

  • Tennis Elbow ( Epicondylitis ).

  • Runner's Knee (Fascia Lata Tendinitis)

  • Golfer's Elbow ( Epitrocleitis ).

  • Jumper's knee (Patellar tendinitis).

  • Baseball player's shoulder (Rotator Cuff Tendinitis).

How do we treat Tendinitis with Shock Waves at FisioClinics Palma?

Our physiotherapists at FisioClinics Palma are highly qualified professionals who have experience in the treatment of conditions such as tendinitis, who are also certified in the management of Shock Wave therapy, a device that has proven its effectiveness in the treatment of acute tendinopathies ( short time of evolution) and chronic (long time of evolution).

To achieve the objective of a successful treatment, it is necessary to determine the factors that have led to the development of tendinitis, so in a first session one of our physiotherapists will assess you exhaustively with various tests and through a musculoskeletal ultrasound, with the collected data a treatment plan is designed with shock wave therapy. With this non-invasive therapy, it has a high-energy acoustic wave action mechanism which passes through the tissues to act on the injured tendon tissue. Between 4 and 6 sessions are carried out on a weekly basis that will be dosed by one of the FisioClinics Palma physiotherapists.
